Roger William Boucher, 85, passed away peacefully May 3, with family by his side, including his devoted wife of 59 years, Joan (Murdough) Boucher.
Mr. Boucher was born in Providence in 1929 to Lt. Commander USNR Leopold and Jeanne (Schadeck) Boucher of West Warwick.
He and his wife Joan raised seven children in the Highlands of Bristol. He loved Highland’s tennis and Wednesday night racing at the Bristol Yacht Club. He was a big fan of his family’s athletic achievements and professional successes. In 1996, the Providence Country Day School elected Roger and Joan, and their three sons Jeb, Zip and Toby to its Athletic Hall of Fame.
An Eagle Scout, he served as a Cubmaster and on the Camp Yawgoog staff. He was a past member-at-large of the RI Boy Scouts, supported the Camp Yawgoog Staff Alumni and chaired many East Bay fund campaigns.
He served in the USMC, received a fleet appointment to the USNA, and attended the Tome School in Harve de Grasse, MD, and the University of Rhode Island with the class of 1952.
As a Red Cross volunteer, he chaired the Pawtuxet Valley Chapter and played an active role in the consolidation of the Warwick and East Greenwich chapters, creating the Central RI Chapter, of which he was an officer and board member.
Roger began his business career in Detroit, Mich., with RC Wilson Inc., followed by 16 years at the Davol Rubber Company of Providence, where he served as its marketing manager. After Davol was acquired by International Paper Co, he became General Manager of its Consumer Products Division and Canadian operations.
In 1975, he joined Horton, Church & Goff, an advertising agency, where he became Senior VP and group manager for consumer product clients. Later, with colleagues, he formed his own advertising agency serving regional clients under the firm names of Holmes, Boucher & Co, and HCC/Boucher & Co.
After retirement, he served on numerous non-profit boards. He enjoyed lunching with Turks Head Club friends and reading history. An active member of St Michael’s Church of Bristol, he served as a vestry member and stewardship chair. He also helped establish the Tri-Centennial Organ Fund Foundation of which he was a trustee.
He is survived by his wife Joan, six brothers and sisters: Lorraine and Claire of Florida, Paul of South Carolina, and Richard, Jacqueline and Brian of Rhode Island, and seven children: Jonathan [Anne Woodward] of Harrison NY; Whitney [Pamela Bennett] of Hingham, Mass.; Sandra [William Zinser] of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Meredith [Peter Wagner] of Port Ludlow, Wash.; Melissa [Harry Yergey] of Darien, Conn.; Sarah [Richard Cox] of Los Angeles Calif.; and Thomas [Anne Goff] of San Diego, and 15 grandchildren.
