Audrey Waugh

Audrey A. Waugh, 83, formerly of Barrington died Sunday, July 12, 2015. She was the wife of Warner Waugh.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Faith (McCormick) Holloway.

Audrey was a group home director at Nahar Center in Barrington until retiring.

She leaves 4 beloved sons, Carleton “Butch” Waugh of Boynton Beach Fla., David F. Waugh of Jacksonville Fla., Richard Waugh of Barrington, and Bryan T. Waugh of Newport and 10 grandchildren.

Joseph Edwin Darling, 98, of King Philip Avenue, Bristol, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015. He was the husband of Isabelle (Wilkinson) Darling.

Born in Warren, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Gladys (Sykes) Darling. He was the father of Lynne M. (Bruce) Morgan of South Carolina and Joseph E. Darling (Javier Perez) of California; grandfather of Gianna Haney, Erin Bibeau and Brian D’Alessandro; and brother-in-law of May Darling. He was the brother of the late Carlton Darling, Constance Beiberbach and Barbara McGeogh.

He was a 1933 graduate of Warren High School.

Mr. Darling was an electrical engineer and worked for Brown & Sharpe during World War II. He then worked at U.S. Rubber and spent many years as an electrical engineer in quality control at Kaiser Aluminum in Bristol. He retired from Boston Cable in Taunton, Mass.

Joseph owned Ray-Dar Sports in downtown Bristol in the 1940s. Over the years he was a member of the Bristol, Newport and Tiverton yacht clubs.

He and his wife lived in Rhode Island and Florida during retirement, spending the last seven winters in South Carolina with his daughter. When in Rhode Island, he spent most of his time sailing the coast on his 33-foot sailboat, Cloud 9. At the age of 92, he sold his sailboat and spent the next five years traveling on his cabin cruiser, My Three Girls.

He was a Mason and a member of Power Squadron for more than 50 years. He was also an amateur radio operator for more than 40 year with the call K1LQH, spending each morning with a group of friends in Rhode Island and across the country discussing absolutely everything! He was icredibly analytical, humorous and loving and finally in his words, “crossing the bar.”

His funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, at 9 a.m. at the George Lima Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground. Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Guilherme MedeirosGuilherme “Billy” “Belina”  Medeiros, 85, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 18, 2015. He was the husband of the late Maria Margarida (DaSilva) Medeiros.

Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Joao and Maria de Lourdes (Botelho) Medeiros.

For many years, he owned and operated the Casa Vitoria on Shove Street in Tiverton. Billy loved fishing, gardening, making wine and greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, John Medeiros, Gabriel Medeiros, Margaret Cabral (husband Venancio), Natalie Simoes (husband Luis), Antone Medeiros, Rose Pedro (husband Ronald), Christine Tripp (husband Jody) and Patricia Frezza; siblings, Maria Furtado and Raul Botelho; 17 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the great grandfather of the late Xaviah and brother of the late Duarte Medeiros, Jose Medeiros, Antonio Medeiros, Joao Medeiros, Alfredo Botelho, Maria Elena Vasconcellos, Arthur Medeiros and Fernando Botelho.

His funeral was held on Monday, July 27, in Holy Ghost Church. Interment was in St. Patrick Cemetery. www.silvafaria.com

Clinton J. Eolin, 70, Little Compton

EolinClinton J. Eolin, 70, of Little Compton, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Providence VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness with his wife Suzanne (Gomez) Eolin by his side.

Born in Durham, NC, son of the late Clinton and Mary N. (MacDonald) Eolin, he had lived in Little Compton since 1965. Prior to retirement, he was a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service at the Turnkey Station in Providence. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Eolin loved all animals. especially his dog Mackie. He was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed fishing.

Including his wife, survivors include a son, John Eolin and his wife Stephanie of Westport; two daughters, Mindy E. Gauthier and her husband Andre of Tiverton and Megan M. Eolin of Tiverton; a sister, Susan L. Crepeau and her husband Robert of Tiverton; six grandchildren, Aidan, Connor, Nathan, Tess, Lauren and Katelyn; a great grandson, Cole; a lifelong friend, Sandy Taber; and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial Mass, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Saturday, August 1, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Little Compton at 10 a.m. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Foley 001Janice A. (Thibodeau) Foley, 63, of Westport, peacefully passed away at home after a long illness on Saturday, July 25, 2015, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Gary M. Foley.

Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Andre D. and Evelyn R. (Lachance) Thibodeau, she had resided in Westport since 1983. Prior to her retirement in 2007, she worked as a computer systems analyst for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport.

Mrs. Foley enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. She loved staying in Florida during the winter months and going to Disney World but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors along with her husband include her daughter, Catherine A. MacKay and her husband Todd of Westport; her son, Gary M. Foley Jr. of Cranston; two brothers, Andre D. Thibodeau,Jr. and Paul Thibodeau, both of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Austin, Lily and Hannah MacKay; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Aurora “Ora”(Primiano) Vitullo, 95, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015. She was the wife of the late Alexander E. Vitullo.
Born in Warren and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Rocco and Assunta (Muccino) Primiano.
Mrs. Vitullo leaves her daughter, Margaret Horsman and her husband David of Crystal River, FL; her sister, Rita DiMatteo; her sister-in-law, Mary Vaccaro; her granddaughter, Kristin Flora and her husband Michael of Virginia; her great-grandchildren, Marissa and Sean Flora; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Frank, Albert and Louis Primiano, Flora Sevigny, Ella Mello, Lucy Sevigny and Josephine DelSanto.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 29 from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Alexander’s Church, 221 Main St., Warren. James R. “Jim” Lake, 83, Bristol

Master Chief Boilerman James R. “Jim” Lake, U.S. Navy (Retired), age 83, of 48 Duffield Road, Bristol, died Saturday, July 25, 2015, in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was the husband of Theresa G. (Meiggs) Lake, his wife of 57 years.

Born in South Muddy Township, Illinois, and a resident of Bristol since 1957, he was a son of the late Hallie and Edna (Parker) Lake. Jim served in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years, including the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring in 1971 as a Master Chief Boilerman.

Following his retirement, he was the building engineer for the First Hartford Realty Corporation and then the Property Manager for Amica Insurance Company in Providence, retiring in 1989. He was a graduate of New England Technical College and continued his education at Roger Williams College in Bristol with two years of study in Power Engineering.

Jim was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol, a member of the Bristol County Lodge Knights of Columbus, Bristol, and a member of the Anthony C. Almeida Post # 237, V.F.W., Bristol.

Along with his wife, he enjoyed square dancing for more than 20 years. They were members of the Dancing Squares of Riverside. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Bristol Golf Course. An avid bowler, he was a member of the men’s league for many years at Dudek’s Bowling Alley in Warren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Lois L. Teitz (Andrew) of Barrington and Robert A. Lake (Janet) of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Erica M., Katelyn, and Jaclyn Lake, Elizabeth R. Teitz, Robert J. Lake and Alexandra Teitz.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Yates, and three brothers, John W., Guy and Neil Lake.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Wednesday, July 29, at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol.  Burial with military honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol.

Visitation will be Wednesday morning only from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the RI Veterans Home – Patient Activities Fund, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI  02809.

Diane Elaine Warren, a professional theatre and television actress, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Evergreen House Health Center in East Providence, R.I., after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Fall River, MA on April 6, 1953, she was the only child of Dorothy Mae Deacon and Eugene Warren. A resident of Warren, Diane received her B.S. in general studies (theatre) from Rhode Island College. She had performed at Trinity Repertory Company twice before moving to New York City in 1978, where she lived for more than 20 years.
She appeared in numerous Broadway, Off Broadway and regional theatre productions including “Sherlock’s Last Case” with Frank Langella and “Biography” at Manhattan Theatre Club opposite Piper Laurie. In addition, she appeared on daytime dramas “All My Children” and “Guiding Light” in recurring roles. She continued her professional training at HB Studio with Aaron Frankel and with director Nikos Psacharopoulos.
A memorial service will be held in the near future.

Jane J. Jaworski, 88, of Warren died Monday at the Silver Creek Manor in Bristol.

She was born in Warren, a daughter of the late Whadyslaw and Zofia (Karwacka) Jaworski.

Jane was an Administrative Secretary for over 40 years for the Dept. of Education for the State of RI, before retiring in 1992.

She was a parishioner of St. Alexander’s Church, and she enjoyed travelling.

Miss Jaworski was the sister of Walter Jaworski of Pocasset MA.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Edward Jaworski, Stanley Jaworski, Mary Kosinski, Anne Del Pozzo, Josephine Ziobro, and Sophie Pise.

Her funeral service will be held Friday July 31, 2015 at 10:00am in the Smith Funeral , Memorial and Cremation Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd., Warren, burial will follow in St. Alexander Cemetery.

Emily (Alves) Silvia, 99, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Silver Creek Manor. She was the wife of the late Frank Coite Silvia.

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Emma (Cabral) Alves. She was the mother of John F. Silvia, Steven M. Silvia and the late Robert Silvia and the sister of Elsie Cabral and Dorothy Marshall.

Mrs. Silvia attended Bristol schools and was employed by Collins & Aikmen before retiring.

Her funeral services were held Saturday, July 25, from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Richard Narciso at St. Elizabeth Church. Liturgical readings were by Katie Silvia and Michelle Silvia. The offertory gifts were presented by John McGowan and Carrie McGowan.  Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Steven Silvia, Steven Sweeney, Joshua Canario, Kyle Batista, David Silvia Jr., Charles Chadsey and Michael Chadsey.

Louis R. Terceira, 86, of Westport, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Claudette T. (Ross) Terceira.

Born in Fall River, son of the late Antonio R. and Mary (Costa) Terceira, he had resided in Fall River and Somerset for most of his life before to moving to Westport. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver for the former T.J. Motorlines, Assonet. Mr. Terceira enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his 3 daughters: Debra Martin of Westport, Gail McNaughton of FL and Doreen Beaulieu of Westport; his brother: Ronald Terceira of FL; 4 grandchildren: Krystal Bush, Stacey and Jennifer Beaulieu and Derek Levesque; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith M. (Lewis) Willis, 88, of Little Compton, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.  She was the widow of Everett M. Willis Sr.  Born in Little Compton, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Moniz) and Manuel Lewis.

A homemaker for most of her lifetime, she is survived by two sons, Everett M. Willis Jr. (wife Laurie) and Donald D. Willis Sr. (wife Karen).   She also leaves grandchildren Everett Willis III  (wife Tricia), Donald Willis Jr., David E. Willis, Jessica C. Willis and Crystal Couture, along with several great grandchildren.  In addition, she leaves a sister, Dorothy Souza, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by nine siblings.

She was a volunteer for many years at the Little Compton Senior Center.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Her funeral will be held Saturday at the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton. Gildo Louis Botelho, 88, of Fatima Drive, Bristol, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Olga (Marshall) Botelho.

Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Luis and Maria (Benevides) Botelho. In addition to his wife Olga, he is survived by his sons, Douglas Botelho and John Paul Botelho; grandchildren, Jodi Leffingwell and her husband, Eric, Kelly Caton and her husband, Kevin, and Douglas M. Botelho; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Leffingwell, Aubrey Leffingwell, Shea Caton, Julia Caton and Jacqueline Caton.  He was the brother of Mary Botelho Ferreira, Otilia Texeira and Madeline Grimo and father of the late Jacqueline Botelho.

Mr. Botelho attended Bristol sSchools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He then worked for Kaiser Aluminum before retiring.

His funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Richard Narciso and concelebrated by the Rev. Luis Dutra and the Rev. Jared Constanza at St. Elizabeth’s Church.

Liturgical readings were by Jodi Leffingwell and Douglas M. Botelho. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Kelly Caton. The offertory gifts were presented by Shea Caton, Julia Caton, Abigail Leffingwell and Aubrey Leffingwell. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donald E. Conaway, Jr., Little Compton

Donald Conaway0001Donald E. Conaway, Jr., engineer, entrepreneur and founder of Checon Corporation of Attleboro, Mass., died peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2015. He was a resident of Little Compton.

Born August 26, 1925, in Charleston, West Virginia, Donald (Don) was the eldest of three children born to Jane Preston Finley Conaway and Donald Edward Conaway Sr. of Warren, Penn.

He was a 1950 graduate of Cornell University on the GI Bill following three years of service in the Army and the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He and his wife Patricia Gibson Conaway of Sheffield, Penn., moved to Attleboro in 1955 where they raised three children. In 1960 he left Texas Instruments to incorporate his basement startup, Checon Corp., which today is the largest US manufacturer in its field. Over the past 50 years, he patented and was involved in the development of new processes in electrical contact manufacture and contact material production.

Don was committed to active service in his community where he served on boards that included the Augat Foundation, the Associated Industries of Mass. and his beloved Capron Park Zoo, in Attleboro. Don also worked to establish the Spindle Rock Club in Acoaxet, Mass., as a charter member. With an engineer’s appreciation for logical process, a natural charm and a winning smile he was a formidable campaign chair for fund drives in support of his local church and hospital.

In his later years, Don authored a collection of memoirs and stories often accompanied by his skilled amateur photography. His family will treasure them and his memory.

Don is survived by Patty, his beloved wife of 63 years. He is predeceased by his sister Betsi Preston Conaway Yerkes and survived by his brother Charles Finley Conaway of Warren, Penn.; his daughters, Susan Lincoln of Boxford, Mass., Anne Conaway Downing of Damascus, Ore.; and his son, D. Allen Conaway of Bristol. He was a grateful grandfather to five and a great grandfather to three.

A funeral service in his memory will be held at the United Congregational Church of Little Compton at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug.7. A reception at the church will follow.

Mary E. (Coelho) Akervik, 71, died Monday July 27, 2015 at the Warren Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
She was born in Bristol a daughter of the late John and Mary (Pacheco) Coelho.
 
Mary was an Assembler and packer for the former P &C Jewelers of Bristol for many years retiring in 1998.
She has lived in Warren for 7 years coming from Bristol , she was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church.
Mrs. Akervik, enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
 
She is survived by her son, American Artist, Dennis Akervik Coelho of Providence, her daughter Dawn Almeida and her husband Manuel Almeida Jr. of Warren, her son Richard Akervik of Warren.
She is also survived by her brothers James Coelho of Colorado, Kenneth Coelho of Cranston, her sisters Martha Peters of Bristol, Donna Fernandes of Swansea, June Votaw of Reno, Nevada.
Mary was the grandmother of JoAnne Almeida ,Joshua Almeida, Sonni Almeida, Manuel Almeida, Michael Almeida, Tyler Almeida, Olivia Akervik, and Gavin Akervik.
She was also the great grandmother of Aubrey Small, Gabriel Almeida, and Keith Raposa Jr.
Mrs. Akervik was the sister of the late Joseph Coelho, John Coelho, Robert Coelho, Barbara Silvia, Priscilla Jacob, Carol Coelho, Bernadette Akeley, and Beverly Fontes.

Robert Long passed away in his home on Sunday, July 26, 2015. He lived in Bristol.

He was the husband of the late Dana L. Long. Mr. Long was the son of the late Stewart M. long and Frances Minnie Westerman, from Ellsworth, Kansas.

Robert was a steel worker for more than 20 years at Electric Boat, Quonset Point.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. John King (DD-3). Robert was a social member of the Engine 2 the Ever-Ready’s. Robert really enjoyed restoring things in his spare time.

He is survived by his son, Robert Long Jr., and wife, Lynnanne, of South Boston, Mass., and daughters, Jill long of Bristol and Jodi Silva and husband, Thomas, of Bristol.

Robert has three grandchildren, Melany Lynn Silva of Bristol, Samuel Long of South Boston, Mass., and Dana Lee Silva of Bristol. Robert has two siblings, Ronald and Janice Long, who are still living in Kansas.

No funeral service or calling hours for Robert. He will be cremated and family will be having a small memorial service with military honors of just family and close friends.

Adeline D. Crenson, 90, passed away on July 22, 2015, in Santa Fe, N.M., surrounded by her family. She was a longtime resident of Barrington.

She was the wife of the late Rev. John M. Crenson. She leaves her son, John M. Crenson Jr.; daughter, Hari Kaur Khalsa; and son-in-law, Dr. Siri Akal S. Khalsa.

She was an active and devoted member of the Episcopal Society of Companions.

John T. Lazzaro, 73, of Barrington died peacefully at his home with his loving family surrounding him. He was the beloved husband of Cathy R. Lazzaro.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Lavin) Lazzaro. John was a member of the Barrington Police Department for 39 years, retiring as chief of the department.

John was a member of the team that built the new Public Safety Complex. He served as a member of the Barrington Town Council for eight years.

He was the PER of the Bristol County Order of Elks, a member of the Barrington FOP and FOPA and a member of the RI Police Chiefs Association.

Besides his wife, John leaves two sons, John and Thomas Lazzaro; a daughter, Jaime Lazzaro of Barrington; a sister, Karen Gallagher of Barrington, and six grandchildren.

Mary R. (Madeiro) Benevides, 85 of Bristol, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at home. She was the wife of the late Henry F. Benevides.

Mary was born in Bristol a daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella (Arrone) Madeiro.

Mrs. Benevides was a dietary aide for the Rhode Island Veterans’ Home for more than 10 years, and also was a housekeeper at private residences.

She was a Bristol resident all her life. She was a member of the Radiant Christian Assembly of God Church in Warren, where she was the president of the Missions division of the church.

Mary also enjoyed spending time in her home and with her family.

She is survived by her children, Sherrill Ferreira and her husband Jack of Bristol, Rhoda Benevides Sears and her husband Tom of Elizabeth, Colo., David and his wife Christine Benevides of Bristol, and the Rev. Sudarshan Jyoti Komanapalli and his wife Asha of Bristol.

Also survived by her one and only sister, Rose L. Ramos of Bristol.

She was the grandmother of Beth, Heather, Tommy, Shauna, Ashley, David, Melissa, Rachel Rose, and Karina.

Mrs. Benevides was the great-grandmother of Marc, Corey, Austin, Caitlyn, Mariah, Autum, Hannah, Devin, Alex, Khloe and Addison. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary was sister of the late John Madeiro, Joseph Madeiro Jr., and Roy Madeiro.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Radiant Christian Assembly of God Church, 895 Main St. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Bristol.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Milton Howard Waterman, 82, of N. Brookfield, Mass., formerly of Rehoboth and Barrington, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

He was the former husband of Beverly (Miller) Waterman. Born in Barrington, he was the son of the late Charles and Vivian (Hopkins) Waterman.

He graduated from Barrington High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War, then went on to deliver dairy products for the former Read’s Dairy and forming Waterman’s Dairy Service. In his retirement years, he worked as a gas station attendant.

Whether he was filling up a refrigerator with milk or a car with gas, he was sure to greet people with a smile and be reliable and trustworthy.

He enjoyed hiking, baseball and theological studies.

He leaves two sons, Kendall Waterman of Dighton, Bradford Waterman of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a sister, Gladys Lynch of Franklin, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Prince’s Hill Cemetery in Barrington at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers and memorial contributions, prayers would be appreciated. Visit smithmason.com for online condolences.
