Maria Nelia (Toste) Sousa, 72, of Franca Drive, passed away on May 24. She was the wife of Domingos M. Sousa.
Born in Fonte do Bastardo, Terceira, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Francisca (Rocha) Toste. She was the mother of Domingos DeSousa of Bristol, Roy DeSousa of Cumberland and Susana M. Brooks of Riverside; grandmother of Michael DeSousa, Melissa DeSousa, Sarah DeSousa, Matthew DeSousa, Steven Pereira and Victoria Pereira; and sister of Domingos, Jose, Esvelina, Tiundina, Elena and the late Francisco.
Mrs. Sousa graduated from school in Portugal and was a baker for Pimental Bakery and Batista Bakery before retiring.
Her funeral services were held May 28 from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Luis Dutra at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Steven Pereira and Kim DeSousa, who also read the Prayer of the Faithful. The offertory gifts were presented by Melissa DeSousa and Matthew DeSousa. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Roy DeSousa, Steven Pereira, Gary Patalano, Michael DeSousa, PJ McGrath and Devon Nichols.
