Joseph Domenic Antinucci of Van Wickle Lane went home to the Lord at the age of 72 on Thursday, February 21, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer in his Severna Park home.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, four children, 18 grandchildren and many friends. Joe and Janice’s first born Maria and her husband Charles Stalzer of Atlanta, Geo.; Joseph Antinucci of Kannapolis, N.C.; Michael and Julie Antinucci of Severna Park, Mary.; Domenic (DJ) and Julie Antinucci of Arnold, Mary. Also surviving are his brother Domenic (Dom) with wife Amelia and their two children Jennifer and Caroline; Joe’s deceased sister’s husband Dan Hatcher and their daughter Sharon McCarthy.
Joe’s father Domenic, mother Josephine and sister Sue Hatcher preceded him in death.
Joe was born May 28th, 1940 in Bristol where he was raised and met the love of his life, Janice DaPonte, while delivering newspapers on his route. He graduated Colt Memorial High School then went onto University of Rhode Island earning an electrical engineering degree. He continued to explore his passion for electronics with a full scholarship to MIT earning a Masters degree in aeronautics. Joe was active in the Bristol community as a member of the Bristol Jaycees.
Professionally, Joe had a 45 year career in the defense industry, of which 33 years was in the civil service where he was the first member of the senior executive service and received numerous Meritorious awards directly from Presidents Carter and Reagan.
After his service in the government, he joined the Lockheed Martin Corporation and quickly rose to the levels of company president, group president, corporate vice president and director. Under his tenure, he optimized many business processes while dramatically expanding Lockheed’s international business.
While working, he also proudly served on the board of directors for Kennedy Krieger institute, Sun Trust Bank and the University of Central Florida institute.
Joe retired in 2003 after four decades of public and private service to our country. In retirement he kept very busy with photography, classic car restoration, woodworking, publishing books of his beloved hometown of Bristol and co-hosting our annual “Camp Antinucci” where all the kids and grandchildren gather for two weeks in the summer to celebrate being a kid.
Joe spent countless hours authoring books of his beloved hometown of Bristol, including “Bristol Beyond Beautiful” and “The Faces of Bristol’s Spirit.” He also authored inspirational books describing his valiant battle with cancer and numerous books reflecting upon our family heritage and values.
As an avid photographer, Joe has also provided photographic murals for the Roger Williams University Welcoming Center in Bristol.
It is hard to summarize Joe in so few words. He leaves behind values that will stay with us forever. From his appetite for learning to his commitment to family, Joe’s passion for life will continue to guide us for generations. We were all lucky to know him and witness first hand that hard work does pay off in all aspects of life.
Joe is now home with the Lord, his parents, sister Sue and his beloved grandfather “Pepine.”
His funeral services were held in Bristol on February 25th from The George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial con celebrated by Rev. Barry Gamache, Rev Paul O’Malley and Rev. John Buckley at St. Mary’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Charlie Stalzer and Kate Antinucci. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Trina Demello. Offertory gifts were presented by Arianna Antinucci, Andrew Antinucci, Anna Stalzer and Molly Antinucci. The eulogy was presented by Julie Antinucci.. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Srving as pallbearers were Anthony Anitnucci, Michael Antinucci, DJ Antinucci, Chuck Stalzer, Cahrlie Stalzer and James Mc Carthy.
